In July, 2005, a group of local women began skating together and discussing the possibility of starting a local D-I-Y roller derby league after being exposed to a new form of social interaction and entertainment: ALL FEMALE ROLLER DERBY. The local group evolved and organized themselves and after a lot of growing pains Hurricane Alley Roller Derby was born on Halloween!
Made up of a diverse group of women and men – Hurricane Alley is skater owned and operated. We are strictly run “by the skaters – for the skaters.”
Our mission is to promote roller derby in Corpus Christi and to support our community. Since 2005 H.A.R.D. has expanded exponentially in both size and popularity. We averaged 150 to 200 fans in 2008, and doubled that in 2009 with nearly 700 fans in attendance for the last game of the season!
Our goal for 2011 is to raise enough funding to allow us to move to a larger venue and more excitingly to purchase a banked track, inherently increasing our fan base by thousands! We invite you to come along and be a part of the fastest growing sport in the world!
